Friday Faves :: 4/17

Man oh man!  It's been a busy week!  I fell off the blogging train -big time.

We have some guests coming from out of town today. I got up early to make sure I had time to pop in and say "hi!" and wish you a happy Friday.

I came across a lot of fun things this week to share with you for this week's edition of "Friday Faves!"

You'll get a good laugh at this list of "50 Strange Things Teachers Say" - a list submitted by real teachers.  I'm pretty sure I've said my share of strange things. (I'm guilty of saying #1 and I LOVE #8 and #17)  What have you found yourself saying?

An outdoor twister board?  Don't mind if I do!  There are so many classroom games to play with twister!  Would your school let you do this on their lawn?

Easy math center!  Perfect for little kids to develop fine motor skills!

5 math games every classroom needs to play.  What a great list!

Love this vocabulary game!  Put important vocabulary words in a bag, students pick a word and spin!

This game is great for little ones practicing picture/vowel sound connections (FREEBIE GAME!):

Have a great weekend everyone!

Friday Fave :: 4/3

Hi!  Another Friday has rolled around again!  With Easter this weekend, we've got a lot going on.  Unfortunately the weather will be less than stellar, but we'll make the most of it!

I've got a couple faves for you today and the one MAJOR fave to share with you that may or may not rock your world :)

Ok - I know I said that I wouldn't do any more posts with games using plastic eggs, but these ideas from Scholastic are pretty great and I would be doing you a disservice if I didn't pass it along:

What will YOU be doing when the bell rings on the last day of school??  These teachers have some good grooves:

Ok, now.  I interrupt out regularly scheduled Friday Faves and I bring you a game changer :)

Have you heard of Stitch Fix?   Let me tell you about my new love.

How would you like a personal stylist?  How about someone who hand-picks styles to fit your body and then delivers them to your door.  No more mall shopping and trying on outfits in changing rooms while your baby cries.  (Yes.  Yes. and Tell me more!)

I always have thought that I have a pretty good sense of style, but I hate shopping and I'm never confident when I try to pick out something that I think is trendy.  So as a result, I am still wearing clothing from freshman year in college.  I kept hearing about this Stitch Fix company from other bloggers I follow and I decided to finally give it a try.

Here's how it works:
1)  You create an account with Stitch Fix (affiliate code) and create a styling profile where they ask you a bunch of styling questions, your measurements and what not to get an idea of who they will be styling.  It's actually kinda fun to fill out.
2)  You are assigned a personal stylist (mine is Nicole) and using your style profile, the stylist chooses 5 items (tops, bottoms, and accessories) that she thinks you will like based on your profile.
3)  You anxiously wait for your first fix to come.
4)  You get awkwardly giddy when you come home from teaching a fitness class at the Y and see the Stitch Fix box on your doorstep.

(ok, those last two steps may be me-specific)

5) After you receive your items, you try everything on, keep what you want, send back what you don't.  Easy!

I am really pleased with what they sent me for my first fix!  Here's my review

This blouse it reeeeallly pretty in person (I take terrible pictures, which is why my face is cut off in all the pics..hehe, you'll have to take my word for it).  It's light and flow-y with a nice texture. Perfect for spring.  I would have never picked this to try on if I saw it in the store, which is why love stitch fix.  They encourage you to try new things!
I decided to keep the blouse.

They also sent me the fabulous necklace.  Here's a closer look:
I love how I'll be able to wear it with so many things!  It's a keeper as well!

Next up are these distressed skinny jeans.  They are so soft with a nice stretch.  I don't even have to hem them (which is rare on my 5'1 height).  I paired the jeans with this new button down top I just bought at Old Navy and a pair of nude flats.
I kept the jeans as well as they will be great for spring!

The next top is so lovely that I'm sad it was too big on me:
The arms are awkwardly floppy on me and the body was a bit big. It looked so nice with the new mint flowered necklace that I recently purchased.  I'm really sad to send it back

Finally, I had requested that my stylist send me a blazer.  The color is gorgeous and the cut was really nice on my short torso:
Unfortunately, it was a little snug across the back, compliments of my broad shoulders.  It was also a little long on my arms.  I loved the way it looked with the cream polka-dot blouse.  I paired it with some pearls and it really made a polished look.  I may choose to request another blazer on my next fix (scheduled May 27 - and I'm already anxious to get it!)

In all, I kept 3 of the 5 items - not bad for my first fix.  Once you decide what you're going to keep, you go on their website to provide feedback so that they can make your next fix even better.

My first experience was awesome.  I'm sold!  If you've been thinking about joining, I highly recommend it.  I would also love it if you used this link as my referral code.

Any other stitch fix users out there?  I've been loving reading other bloggers reviews of their fixes!

Friday Faves :: 3/27

Wahoo!  Friday, I've missed you.  Since this coming week is the week before Easter, I thought I'd feature some fun Easter-themed ideas and tips that I found this week.

How cute are these little bunny juice boxes?  They'd be great for a fun Friday snack this coming week!

This center game is perfect for this week!  You can even get the recording sheet for free here.

Check out TONS of ideas for using plastic eggs {are you sensing a themed yet?) from the Fun in First blog.  There's something for every grade level!  I especially love the "What's in My Egg" idea that you can snag for free.  Check it out!

Or how about a graphing activity? {another freebie!}:

This next activity has a lot of potential.  As shown, it's just for matching the number of bird feathers (clothes pins) to the right bird, which would be great for little kiddos.  But to make it appropriate for older kiddos, why not put multiplication products on the bird and then write the multiplication problem on the clothes pins for students to match up?

And finally - I LOVE how many people have linked up to my Spring Linky Party from earlier this week.  There are a lot of great resources there, as well!  Head over and check it out!

Hope your weekend is fabulous!

Friday Faves :: 3/20 {Happy First Weekend of Spring!}

I love the start of the weekend, don't you!?  Friday night in particular because you know you still have two whole days left in your weekend!  It was a busy week, although I don't actually feel like I've accomplished much.  Some weeks are just like that, ya know?

Well, in true Friday fashion, it's time to share some of my favorites pins, photos, ideas, and funnies from the week.  Shall we get started?

First up:  this hilarious video.  I've seen it before, but totally forgot out it until it resurfaced on Facebook again.  I showed it to my husband and he laughed, thinking it was a joke (and it kinda is) but I can remember many-a-days where I felt like this was my life:
{I won't tell you how long I spent browsing through the other videos on this YouTube channel.}

And then there's this video, on a more serious level {...I'm just realizing now how much time I spent on YouTube this week, oops}:

And then there's this adorable idea!  Of course, the possibilities are endless, any math operation, vocabulary words...endless!

We all know about the pencil and paper clip trick to make a spinner, but here's a more permanent solution to make customized spinners for your classroom game from Bonnie Kathryn: Kinders and Beyond:

Simple.  Love.  Could this be an easy independent math center?

And a little photo collage of Clara's birthday party this weekend. Let's just say she was NOT shy with the cake and acted as though I had been giving it to her all long {I have not :)}.

Oh yeah - it's the first day of spring!  {Yay!}  I feel like breaking out the flip flops!  And, I'm going to celebrate with a "Spring Savings" sale at my Teachers Pay Teachers store!  This weekend only!

Friday Faves: 3/13

Hi!
Ready to do you Friday happy-dance?  Go ahead, I'll wait/join you!

I hope you had a productive week.  I've been doing a lot of random things, mostly getting ready for Clara's birthday party this Sunday.  {I'll share some pics next week}  I still can't believe she's one!

Here are some favorites that caught my eye this week:

This blog post by Creative Lesson Cafe on using games in the classroom.

And - after reading that post, I fell in love with these dice!  I've never seen anything like it before and I think they are super cool!

This funny movie that I may or may not have watched many times over...

If you don't know the Teacher Tipster, you don't know happiness.  *I* want to be in this guy's classroom.  I can only imagine how much the kids love him.  He's got great ideas including this one using pool noodles.

Make this now. mmmmk?

Enjoy your weekend!

Friday Faves :: 3/6

Hi everyone!

Hope your getting geared up for a great weekend.  Here are some of my favorite finds from this past week:

Friends, you MUST get to Target ASAP.  The dollar bin is faaaaabulous.  I went in there with no intention of buying anything from the bins, but then a little tiny voice named Burlap called my name.  LOOK what I found!

I love two things about this idea I saw on Pinterest.  #1 -the game is adorable (tossing little pom-poms into a muffin tin - adorbs) and #2 the way this teacher displayed the directions on a little stand up clip-y thing.  Perfect!

I love a memory game as much of the next guy, but we all know that when kids play, they often don't make the most out of the game.  This article is a great read to help make playing memory more meaningful!

And just so you know what goes on while I'll try to blog and work each day - this picture pretty much sums it up:

Enjoy the start of your weekend!
