<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgifD5fdegceiX2YS_YF2CHNGiBtXn9-em0ebPJNmGFoYz-65tT1QYTTX4QIcn5TfWtphxFE_aaeVZmxUOs8zL_sQxhOj_5YozlC8kKNeFpBUVZahS4dKeTF4yO8LZ2qJfXcRep9yxPSOQ/s1600/Reading+Comp+Cootie+Catches+%25281%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgifD5fdegceiX2YS_YF2CHNGiBtXn9-em0ebPJNmGFoYz-65tT1QYTTX4QIcn5TfWtphxFE_aaeVZmxUOs8zL_sQxhOj_5YozlC8kKNeFpBUVZahS4dKeTF4yO8LZ2qJfXcRep9yxPSOQ/s640/Reading+Comp+Cootie+Catches+%25281%2529.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I mean...why WOULDN'T you use cootie catchers in your reading block? It makes perfect sense.<br />
<br />
Ok - remember last week how I was talking about doing a little spring cleaning with some of my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Classroom-Nook" target="_blank">TpT resources</a>? Well, I did a little spring cleaning in my file folders on my computer as well. Yikes. Now THAT'S a bit of a rabbit hole. I got in a little deeper than I wanted to, but I figured I might as well finish the job. I got rid of a lot (a LOT) of cringe worthy products that just didn't make the cut anymore, and I got some major organizing done as well.<br />
<br />
BUT - you know what I found? THIS >>><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6W0uz8zqMNnMGVRMVJOZHgyQlE/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinaaC4l8DznTJVqXqTyhiG5Un4Bt0VSCNMOYyfsrJMUe272o6XNTjq9GMQm4f3aGk8GwY8T2EnXR0pDhVo4SjlvRWQPRP1jcjj2j1s11alB7bNnGayXun0-oGxkcteCt5xwUQboqGhUw8/s640/cootie_catcher3.png" width="630" /></a></div>
It's a reading comprehension cootie catcher that I TOTALLY forgot I made! And since it resurfaced for me - I thought I'd resurface it for you! I'm sure I made it for you guys in the first place, but I can't for the life of me find it anywhere on the blog. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6W0uz8zqMNnMGVRMVJOZHgyQlE/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="264" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ1GI0Bl7l3XfvhltHXyd8LLP4p4CEQUGLD_ukwYTsIHAKQluzTrlS6QIH9LrIU-9k58KFzxBx8AWnCy5ciFUJMZ5V5XVb_Y8g-oE_jNLbxILR6Auc6VCJOZe0oAb20iluqXD0NV2eaWw/s320/cootie_catcher1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6W0uz8zqMNnMGVRMVJOZHgyQlE/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="276" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDfZfTyTDJlZbix4athys51IF805MRpiuWy4mV8sLXuVWt9YgT0VYdKoXU3MfTPbBn6kUzmmjQGj0ybni6j9MymWPWALV8yUZnwWiZkdZQmuhpFiDGduM6zlTkXQ3HzCHjtcUgBp04o7E/s320/cootie_catcher2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
There's actually 3 different versions. They have different comprehension questions that can be used with any fictional book. They work great as a quick partner review game. You can download them <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6W0uz8zqMNnMGVRMVJOZHgyQlE/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">here</a>!<br />

Have you been doing any spring cleaning?<br />
<br />
I certainly have - but not in my house. I've been doing some MAJOR spring cleaning of some of my resources on TpT. If you've been over to <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Classroom-Nook" target="_blank">my store</a> lately, you may notice things looks a little different. And in the process, a lot of my older, shall I say "well loved" resources got a little face-lift.<br />
<br />
I recently redid my Force and Motion unit. My unit includes a review game and I thought I'd share it all with you. (Teacher Appreciation Week may be over, but I'm still passin' out the love!)<br />
<br />
Click below to download it. I'll also be adding it to my <a href="http://classroomgamenook.blogspot.com/p/sciss-games_16.html" target="_blank">science game archives</a> for quick, anytime access.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6W0uz8zqMNnUzhLZ1lMdGRSd0U/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpSLbwcZHA16eCdLUpeISHrLEpmiTThR-AvNceUlU2QM_9cV7NW91pvizYTVVwy0O4HiEbfTelF7oIdF5Kc_MpDRK4AvLsM2oKTaRW4XFDVLK_J72VcZk1w-8moGMNFhjl1WwoTENOAYY/s640/2+%25282%2529.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And - if you're in search on a complete unit on <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Force-and-Motion-and-Simple-Machines-Complete-Unit-613399" target="_blank">Force and Motion (& Simple Machines)</a>, then I've got you covered. Introducing the new and improved unit:<br />

Need a quick (and FUN!) way to have your students respond to their reading?<br />
<br />
Well - it can be as easy as a roll of the die.<br />
<br />
You may have remembered a few weeks ago when I told you about an easy way to help your students to get creative in their writing: <a href="http://classroomgamenook.blogspot.com/2016/04/one-quick-way-to-spark-creativity-in.html" target="_blank">Roll and Write</a>.<br />
<br />
Well, let's roll that fun (ha, get it, roll?) right into reading with <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREEBIE-Read-and-Roll-Reading-Responses-for-Fiction-and-Non-Fiction-328604" target="_blank">"Read and Roll"</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREEBIE-Read-and-Roll-Reading-Responses-for-Fiction-and-Non-Fiction-328604" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCCBSpl6YEOYJCwZOre0qy4UQUII7kzpV1H1KKTMOaN4-wEK01TYvrzMHwN5A-_hVVU2_Y_Si9WNc6F_fyKiIJ9f6FlDOurvhaZjg94yY895B7ApGw9sRpHZlEaKU_XKi5l-66iWjQGDA/s640/2.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Each number on the die represents a different type of response task - making it easy for the students to know what to include in their responses and easy for you to set this up and let it run itself. The responses are relatively quick for the students to complete in one sitting.<br />
<br />
You can snag this <span id="goog_138119751"></span>"Roll and Read"<span id="goog_138119752"></span> for free on <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREEBIE-Read-and-Roll-Reading-Responses-for-Fiction-and-Non-Fiction-328604" target="_blank">TpT</a>.<br />
<br />
Now, if you want to take it a step further with some more involved reading responses, then you may want to check out one of my latest resources on TpT - Reading Choice Boards:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Choice-Boards-for-Fiction-and-Nonfiction-Reading-2539088" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxjNQ1o0wNJUDbvzMXLDN996fml5yM1lCaVCUkkkUmfQLOMoxzlfyzGeCgA5N0xxFz4xPFXijkShvgOhBy3zU-ToiA2ecUahFsopaAukYSmbPlgpJslUKPIq5HU7iFbJNj3wF0t_cx_L8/s640/3.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I made these as part of the Teacher Appreciation Week last week over on <a href="http://www.classroomnook.com/" target="_blank">The Classroom Nook</a> (The Classroom Game Nook's sister-blog), and now they are <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Choice-Boards-for-Fiction-and-Nonfiction-Reading-2539088" target="_blank">available on TpT</a>.<br />
<br />
In this game-like response activity, students can choose which activity they would like to complete from each row. The types of activities are strategically placed on the grid so that students will pick at least one writing response (row 1), one craft-y type response (row 2), and one critical thinking response (row 3).<br />
<br />
In addition to the choice boards themselves, the resource also include the activity sheets that go along with the activities on the board.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Choice-Boards-for-Fiction-and-Nonfiction-Reading-2539088" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="494" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGHX9_JZWCyoo2Sx9uQNdfuVTymGhCQkMt-znQHpRzeRnqz-kliadN8CQChf0PmVic3kR4iWk6a8_Huen5Qi4pUf30D8QLXRC348nYYtE71UXCp7Rbbu_zMQqH3nzEtXyq31J63yl2WNY/s640/choice_board_pics.png" width="640" /></a></div>
You can see all the details <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Choice-Boards-for-Fiction-and-Nonfiction-Reading-2539088" target="_blank">on TpT.</a><br />
<br />
How are your students responding to their reading? Do you have a system set in place, or do you change it up often?<br />

<br />
So - you may have heard by now that The Classroom Game Nook is a big sister - right? If not, head over to <a href="http://classroomgamenook.blogspot.com/2016/04/introducing-newest-member-to-family.html" target="_blank">this post</a> and check out all the details.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.classroomnook.com/" target="_blank">The Classroom Nook</a> is about to celebrate her one month anniversary of going live. In addition, you may have also noticed I changed the name of <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Classroom-Nook" target="_blank">my TpT store</a> to The Classroom Nook as well. It just makes sense to have a unified name throughout everything. <br />
<br />
So with that, in this past month, I've been hard at work ("like burning the candle at both ends" kinda work) trying to switch everything over to "The Classroom Nook" name - and that includes all of the products in my store. With over 200 product (and counting) you can imagine the undertaking that this was (and still is...not done yet!).<br />
<br />
In doing all this, I have been finding that several of my products were in need of a little TLC - so I've given many of my products a bit of a face lift. Some of them reeeeelly needed it.<br />
<br />
My prefix and suffix "Create-a-Word" and "Match-Up" game series were part of that sprucing up.<br />
<br />
If you've already purchased these, then head over to you "My Products" section on TpT and download the new look. Here's a peak at their new look!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbPROdqWZqynHugEnm2YNsIRT-D9DxG4QdhtSHNUZxplE1juhUkYX8UAFgdIVLRMmZfSiuUk7zvKzuNFZNax0FENYVcG2h5_Susjp5_toWbHdjfTzuhkfT5hVmhIIzjxkBY1ksEFgCbeo/s1600/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbPROdqWZqynHugEnm2YNsIRT-D9DxG4QdhtSHNUZxplE1juhUkYX8UAFgdIVLRMmZfSiuUk7zvKzuNFZNax0FENYVcG2h5_Susjp5_toWbHdjfTzuhkfT5hVmhIIzjxkBY1ksEFgCbeo/s640/2.png" width="640" /></a></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiztZgMunBLSRdlm5Jp-YaBzXEU-AUvtTmKT7P6Fh8KrKSq3HaEY1zQrK9qR0Og3CDECWhMfvyfP-0BuWW4fhR9c5lPAW0wqf7GoG9hXdOY6jKoO_UlMfNoARc15t2_Ny9UgjA0HIEG-gM/s1600/Roll+and+Write+%25281%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiztZgMunBLSRdlm5Jp-YaBzXEU-AUvtTmKT7P6Fh8KrKSq3HaEY1zQrK9qR0Og3CDECWhMfvyfP-0BuWW4fhR9c5lPAW0wqf7GoG9hXdOY6jKoO_UlMfNoARc15t2_Ny9UgjA0HIEG-gM/s640/Roll+and+Write+%25281%2529.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
You're in the middle of your writing block during the day and students are sitting at their desks (maybe on the floor or in bean bags dispersed throughout the room) writing. Smoke is coming out of their pencils. They are writing epic stories about dragons, or spaceships -- or something equally as epic.<br />
<br />
This is your classroom every day, right?<br />
<br />
(Not)<br />
<br />
"I don't know what to write about!" (now that's more like it!)<br />
<br />
At least that's what *I* used to hear a lot. Well, no more. Give even those most reluctant writers something to talk about with "Roll and Write."<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREEBIE-Roll-and-Write-A-Writing-Prompt-Literacy-Center-531768" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="610" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfcgry2b3NkZTKejoBYfTezNCs6KYcGH-zwgjWexZA8a5UBkWmja2SgCBn2I3pgbbO3lc5HM62Uc3yyXelcRDjC72LvrHP_T_Fg9l6e3_htjEQNrS2ssCZoLgwz0giWvEbkszFucHsa-s/s640/roll_and_write_pic_cover_image.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
You can make anything work if you turn it into a game, right?<br />
<br />
Here's how it works. You give each student a copy of the page below to place in their writer's folders. When they are stuck on what to write about, they simply roll a die three times. The first roll indicates the setting of their story (so if I roll a 3, my setting is <i>a party on Friday night</i>). The second roll gives them a character, and the third roll gives them a plot. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREEBIE-Roll-and-Write-A-Writing-Prompt-Literacy-Center-531768" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="452" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOXQaB6qCzvUZ9GeJNDyFyEY0_BkgP3rnt_4RFzHTBj-kwlr5-EkFKRYUHlsWmLcnYEAxa06MjQdh8KgzfAsxyoOGMN7sJyrQl_ANn-_5DvW-IwK-F0ZCrhbBEKz8_4JEiVD_EY_MCeu4/s640/roll_and_write_1.png" width="640" /></a></div>
The stories can turn out pretty hilarious. It encourages creativity and originality. No three rolls are the same.<br />
<br />
This freebie even includes a blank 'Roll and Write' sheet for you to swap out new combos every so often.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FREEBIE-Roll-and-Write-A-Writing-Prompt-Literacy-Center-531768" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="484" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAKjPqlxGEVqoDBFW1OkIUH6-K_M9NA_mNtXfdVTdVPqRuhTlNiCmcZVMaBWk6VZ7H5n40ahIKEHelCOtV_VGCv58QoNHiYtMw5JdtXm5VjqbYY5AupktPfZuQP9x4b931YJiSysIKXOg/s640/roll_and_write_2.png" width="640" /></a></div>
Even that student that hates writing can get on board with a story about a frazzled teacher at the beach last summer that breaks her ankle. <br />
<br />

Drum roll please...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is exciting stuff. I have been planning this for quite some time and now it's official! The Classroom Game Nook is a big sister! On April 1st at, oh let's say, about 6am - <a href="http://www.classroomnook.com/" target="_blank">The Classroom Nook</a>, my new blog, officially opened its doors.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.classroomnook.com/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="176" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7KtZ2dHoukYMsZerNjExXPItFCsQ6kwMOpx7EEpFuOJb56HiNGnXPOKC7e6HKaHN9EeFnE8RPo_863N7-BSlNYzli6lPmSgtQPMqM3gBjFPrIejcJ_ijw8LOneYkmb0ZvonrdQYPuP_M/s640/CLASSROOM.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>Why a new blog?</u></span></b><br />
Why not? I mean, I had sooooo much time on my hands that I needed a new hobby (lie). No, but really, why? Well, because as much as I love classroom games, I've known for a while now that I wanted to expand my conversation beyond the classroom games niche to include everything teacher-related. I found that I had so much more I wanted to share, so many more tips and strategies, so many more resources for teachers, but felt like The Classroom GAME Nook wasn't the place. So - I fixed it. I created <a href="http://www.classroomnook.com/" target="_blank">The Classroom Nook</a> so that I could take it to the next level, a step further. And boy do I have some goodies lined up for you. But - more on that later. :)<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>But wait - what about the Classroom Game Nook?</u></span></b><br />
What about it? It ain't going nowhere! (I know, terrible grammar, please excuse...) You've still got all my game resources in the archives found in the top navigation bar. I'll still be poppin' in to share the latest and greatest in classroom games. I'm still your classroom game girl. I'm just expanding my horizons. And I think you're gonna like these new horizons as much as I do! The Classroom Nook is gonna be your place for classroom conversations, talking about things that matter to you and your students.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: x-large;"><u>So what should I do now?</u></span></b><br />
Well, first off, if you haven't already, hop over to the new blog and check out <a href="http://www.classroomnook.com/" target="_blank">my new turf</a>. Wander around and see what you find. When you're over there, be sure to check out my new <a href="http://www.classroomnook.com/2016/04/stop-lecturing-start-connecting-3.html" target="_blank">"Stop Lecturing, Start Connecting" free guide.</a> It's a PDF that I put together to inspire you with 3 amazing teaching strategies that I used with my students that got some pretty amazing results in their learning.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.classroomnook.com/2016/04/stop-lecturing-start-connecting-3.html" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkSKHvR0W5-ZagVUMzTMuCZbI7xP4zqDzRJqOQdSo-OnupOigQhpJtdUd1GXee2QHGxjZC_oqE0zUp3qKNt-soI-KPxZvgZQCeXjscHNUoHcBGuWXqrcX3SIbNTNdkHiJfIR3xVoyEVkk/s320/SLM_with_Cover_Page_facingLeft.png" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

It's going to be pretty awesome. So, without further delay - get going - the party has already started! Check out <a href="http://www.classroomnook.com/" target="_blank">The Classroom Nook!</a></div>

<br />
Heading back to school this week after spring break? I feel your pain.<br />
<br />
I'm hoping to spread a little inspiration with three great finds that I've found around the web lately.<br />
<br />
First up, I'm sure many of you are familiar with <a href="http://www.lauracandler.com/" target="_blank">Laura Candler</a>. She's got some amazing resources, and I stumbled across one of her webinars on easy and fun ways to build multiplication vocabulary. The webinar highlighted some great games you can play in your classroom, and I wanted to pass it on to you in case you missed it! You can watch the replay by clicking below:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZG1UVPLEQ0" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="484" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPJ-GV6NsKnWktlUhO4IFw-SXwRvcIL1z0Hb2P5ODVvndOpTRjdccVBaJTfOav3yScF0n7DbyGnx-vBqPicvgAxUYG6LVwHH3vtUEr1J3SOs581fvmmt7Q62ozqGKW2npzBktFQMzf3jE/s640/webinar_math_vocab.PNG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The next two are from an equally amazing blogger, <a href="http://teachingtoinspire.com/" target="_blank">Jennifer Findley</a> (a "must follow" if your an upper elementary teacher!). She had two great tips for games to play during your test prep instruction. Test prep stinks - but it can stink less with these genius ideas. Check both of them out by clicking below:<br />

<br />
Need an excuse to buy a bunch of jelly beans so that you can eat them later? <br />
<br />
How about doing an estimation jar in your classroom! <br />
<br />
Or - in my case: Do a post on 5 different ways to use an estimation jar in the classroom, take pictures of the jelly beans, host a fun estimation contest on Facebook, and then eat said jelly beans free of judgement :) Sounds like a plan. <br />
<br />
I was thinking - here I am, the author of the Classroom Game Nook, and yet we never actually play games together! Well, that ends today. Let's play a game together, shall we?<br />
<br />
<b>Here's how its gonna work:</b><br />
<br />
I filled this mason jar up to the brim with these <i>soon-to-be-in-my-mouth</i> jelly beans. And now, it's your turn to test your own estimation skills.<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>Observe the two up-close pictures below to help you make an educated guess.</li>
<li>Head over to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/RachaelsTeachingNotebook" target="_blank">my Facebook page</a> and leave a comment with your <u>estimated amount</u> and your <u>email</u>.</li>
<li>You have until Friday March 25th to get in your guess and then I'll look through all the estimations to find the person who guessed the CLOSEST AMOUNT WITHOUT GOING OVER!</li>
<li>I'll announce the winner next week and email the winner their PRIZE :)</li>
</ol>
<br />

<br />
Woah - when did St. Patrick's Day sneak up on us? I haven't even had a shamrock shake from McDonalds yet! Better get on that.<br />
<br />
If it snuck up on you like it did me, then maybe you need a quick printable game to include in your centers this week. Well - I've got two.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Game #1: Create Your Own Game!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7566R-qyZyQUcfU_SSSrRlPjNCCY-MaKet2TK79Cc0qyeVkK9Aju6DvT4Ekw6DHa6NtR4IkwwsjKkTgYQB4quM8d1VmjSGEB_z0btXvFdvYghG68BYZL_P8JS4kw-AZgxV9U5vfIPCH0/s1600/Game1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7566R-qyZyQUcfU_SSSrRlPjNCCY-MaKet2TK79Cc0qyeVkK9Aju6DvT4Ekw6DHa6NtR4IkwwsjKkTgYQB4quM8d1VmjSGEB_z0btXvFdvYghG68BYZL_P8JS4kw-AZgxV9U5vfIPCH0/s640/Game1.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
With this first option, you can easily create a game that will meet your current needs. All you need is the ready-to-go game board and the blank question cards. If you'd like to be able to type in your own questions (as opposed to write directly on the cards from the printable) then snag the images below (<i>right click on each image and save to your computer</i>), paste them into a PPT presentation and add text boxes as needed!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;">Game #2: Math Center Game</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxpApiL_7-ECntSQKJ5vlwJcVbgeCGCqgI1JToWKsRkIh9yFLM_jSWObWx6mPrLP08OhKfMZAsMFzZ-huIT0XYY5I5D5GyisGhitY3kQtypeK6xjrV1nJyBsYrN7191LNmXYW4w8ko__8/s1600/Game2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxpApiL_7-ECntSQKJ5vlwJcVbgeCGCqgI1JToWKsRkIh9yFLM_jSWObWx6mPrLP08OhKfMZAsMFzZ-huIT0XYY5I5D5GyisGhitY3kQtypeK6xjrV1nJyBsYrN7191LNmXYW4w8ko__8/s640/Game2.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This game is done for you - just print, laminate, and place at a math center. Students will get practice with adding, multiplying, and subtracting with 2 and 3-digit numbers. <br />
<br />
There you have it, 2 games, have at it.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7hU0rA8M3CaFU7ATyY4E2WfOfCV2X8DOcc-sAbgqyN9tVkrtIegm8WhYthJVIoSDkVkACp8JvVLAxXf7Df705bgzPySFZA3XDnoBdpc0Lkeqj-7zWcc8_MLRGBOdspxFuKPwW3nf5RpU/s1600/Re-purposing+Games.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7hU0rA8M3CaFU7ATyY4E2WfOfCV2X8DOcc-sAbgqyN9tVkrtIegm8WhYthJVIoSDkVkACp8JvVLAxXf7Df705bgzPySFZA3XDnoBdpc0Lkeqj-7zWcc8_MLRGBOdspxFuKPwW3nf5RpU/s640/Re-purposing+Games.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
When's the last time you looked in your attic (or basement) for your next classroom game?<br />
<br />
I know. Weird question, right? But - really. The materials you need to make that next big game hit in your classroom might be collecting dust. <i>You might also find that missing photo album you've been looking for, too :)</i><br />
<br />
Time to bust out those family games and take them into the classroom. Game like checkers, Jenga, UNO, and Connect 4 can be re-purposed into sight word, math facts, and vocabulary games without even breakin' a sweat!<br />
<br />
Check out this round-up of awesome ways to turn those family games into classroom games:<br />

<br />
Tell me if this sounds like you.<br />
<br />
The weather starts to get warmer (or you have those random warmer days toward the end of the winter - like we're having today in Western NY) and you get the urge to de-clutter, clean, and get organized.<br />
<br />
I certainly am feeling that way and I'm working on cleaning up some of my old products. I tend to do this once a year. I sweep out the looks of some older products and give them a bit of a spring make-over. <br />
<br />
I just finished redoing one of my bigger units, actually my #1 seller for a couple years now- <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Sun-Earth-and-Moon-Complete-Science-Unit-417632">My Sun, Earth, and Moon</a> unit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
There's a simple sorting game that I include in the unit (which has been listed in my <a href="http://classroomgamenook.blogspot.com/p/sciss-games_16.html">science game archives</a> all along). It helps students to identify the difference between rotation and revolution, which can be a tricky concept.<br />
<br />
I offerthis game as a freebie as a sample from the whole unit. Here's a peek at the new look:<br />

<b><br /></b>
<b>Confession #245:</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
When I was teaching in the classroom full time, I was always afraid that my principal would walk in when students were playing a learning game. Why? Because sometimes when students are playing games, it can get a little...shall I say...rowdy? I was afraid that my principal would walk in on one of the rowdier moments and think that I didn't have control over my class.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>The reality? Sometimes learning is rowdy.</b> I wish I would have spent less time being worried about what it looked like, and spent more time feeling proud of what that rowdiness actual meant. It meant that students actually cared about what they were learning through that game. If they didn't care, they would have no reason to get rowdy.<br />
<br />
Do you ever feel that same way? Sometime we focus so much on making sure our classroom looks picture perfect, and we forget that as long as learning is happening, it's a win - even if a pair of dice <i>does</i> find their way being "accidentally" tossed across the room. :)<br />
<br />
Here are 5 things I wish I would have focused more on when I played games in my classroom:<br />
<br />
<b>1// Students learn not just about a concept when playing a game, but they learn <i>through the</i> <i>process</i> of playing a game.</b><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Games give a new concept a whole new perspective. You take the concept off paper and you put it into action. By actually DOING the concept students LEARN the concept.</li>
</ul>
<br /><br />
<b>2// Games provide an environment for learning to be engaging.</b><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Put a bunch of vocabulary words and definitions on a piece of paper for students to memorize and you *might* get 75% retention. Put a "mystery" vocabulary word on a headband (<a href="http://blog.teacherspayteachers.com/make-learning-meaningful-make-learning-fun/">like I described in this guest post</a>) and have students walk around playing a game asking yes/no question to help them guess their word - Now you've got engagement. <i>Meaningful</i> engagement. </li>
</ul>
<br />
<b>3// Games give students lasting positive memories that learning can be and should be fun.</b><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Students WILL remember how they learned. It will either be a positive memory or a negative one. They WILL remember that they hated math because all they did was worksheet after worksheet. They will also remember that Mrs. So-and-So in the 4th grade was the first teacher to make math fun because "all you did was play games" (teacher translation: you tricked students into doing work because you disguised that work in the form of a fun game)</li>
</ul>
<br />
<b>4//</b> <b>With games, you're not just teaching a learning skill, your teaching life skills.</b><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>In the primary grades these life skills might include simple things like how to take turns and learning that it's OK to not win a game. In the intermediate grades, students learn the life skills of encouraging each other in their learning, thinking critically, and learning how to be strategic.</li>
</ul>
<b>5// Students are instantly hooked when you say "we're going to play a game."</b><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>I mean, think about it. The instant you say you're about to play again, students perk up and start looking around the room for who their partner is going to be :) You get their instant attention and they want to know more. Try getting that same reaction when you say "please get out your workbooks."</li>
</ul>
<br />
Now - let's talk reality for a moment. Can every activity in your room be replaced with a game? Of course not. But boy there sure are a lot of ways to sneak them in! <br />
<br />
And when you do, be proud, my teacher friend, be proud! <i>You're</i> that teacher that is making positive learning memories for that one child that used to hate math.<br />

<br />
I'm just gonna be super honest with you for a sec, OK?<br />
<br />
I hate math. I've said it before, so this isn't shocking news, but I just wanted to say it again.<br />
<br />
Why do I hate it? Because it was always hard for me. However, because math was always (and let's be even more honest, <i>still is</i>) hard for me, I always had a soft spot in my heart for my students that struggled in math as well. <br />
<br />
I always knew that I could ease the pain a bit with those students who struggled with math by making it fun with games, and hopefully help them to make connections.<br />
<br />
However, when I was teaching, <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/rachteach/">Pinterest</a> didn't exist (or at least wasn't the teacher go-to tool that it is today). Boy if it was, my teaching (and, well, everything else in my life) would have looked a LOT differently. <br />
<br />
Luckily, Pinterest IS around today, so I thought I'd save you some time by finding my top five picks for Pinterest boards devoted to math games! <i>I also found some really great home decor ideas a long the way (can't help myself :) )</i><br />

If you've been reading the CGN blog long, you probably already know that I teach Sunday School at my church to a group of very active, mostly boys, class. If the activities we do don't involve competition and/or action, forget it. They won't be interested.<br />
<br />
For that reason, I am always looking for cheap (or FREE) ways to keep the learning active, and most importantly >>> FUN! And, if I can find a review game format I can use over and over again. BOOM. Game over - I hit the jack pot!<br />
<br />
Well, I just might have found it, friends. If you walked into my classroom last Sunday, you might not know what to think, but I promise you they were learning, engaged, and having SO. MUCH. FUN!<br />
<br />
So what game were they playing? SPOONS! I mean, it really doesn't get any simpler. Gather some plastic spoons and you're set. Well, there might be one or two other steps, but I promise, you won't break a sweat (or the bank!)<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">H</span><span style="font-size: x-large;">ere's how to play:</span></b><br />
<b>There are many different versions of the game, SPOONS, but this how we played:</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
// Choose a skill that you want your students to practice. Specifically you want it to be a skill that requires students to collect a set of ideas or numbers, or make a match of some sort. <br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><b><span style="color: blue;">Maybe you're students are practicing sight words.</span></b> You will want to choose several different sight words and create playing cards with those sight words on them, having the same word repeated 3 times throughout the cards set. (For example, 3 cards with the word <i>the</i>, 3 cards with the word <i>same,</i> 3 cards with the word <i>should</i>...etc... The more students playing in a group, the more cards you will need)</li>
<li><span style="color: blue;"><b>Maybe you're practicing synonyms.</b> </span> In this case you will want to make a set of cards that have cards with groups of 3 synonyms written on them. (For example you might have three different cards; one with <i>huge, </i>one with <i>gigantic,</i> and a third with <i>large</i> on it - all synonyms. You would create several matches similar to that)</li>
</ul>
In my case, we were reviewing a Bible story and I chose several different images that represented the main concepts of the story. I made several cards showing the same image. Here's an example of some of the cards I created.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhphh6FywJNv8hyphenhyphen5Qnnph16xZh3hG5dBev-bpjluUmyOj4brH5ej4KfTvPS9MsOEd_VRKuEAamNIC0cj4l6QXAJPZiWbg4izc_PP3huRyvVewtJCj4aJQ3tSKW3XDg86NZDKThGsl1E7sc/s1600/Sunday_school_Example.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhphh6FywJNv8hyphenhyphen5Qnnph16xZh3hG5dBev-bpjluUmyOj4brH5ej4KfTvPS9MsOEd_VRKuEAamNIC0cj4l6QXAJPZiWbg4izc_PP3huRyvVewtJCj4aJQ3tSKW3XDg86NZDKThGsl1E7sc/s640/Sunday_school_Example.png" width="532" /></a></div>
<br />
You don't have to give each card a point value, I just did because it create a little more competition fun :) At the end of each round, I had students all up all the point of the cards in their hard. They kept track throughout the whole game.<br />
<br />
// Next, after you choose your skill and create your cards you're ready to get started! You'll want to divide your students into small groups. I suggest no more than 6 students in a group, or it gets extra crazy! You'll need to provide each group with a set of game cards and spoons. You'll need one less spoon for the number of players. So, if you have 6 players in a group, you will give that group 5 spoons.<br />
<br />
// To play, each student is dealt 4 cards. The remaining cards are placed in a pile face down next to the dealer. Player only need to get a match of 3, but they will have 4 cards in their hard.<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Arrange the spoons in a small circle in the center of the table (shown below on left). Players sit in a circle around the spoons so that all players have equal access.</li>
<li>Each playing is trying to get 3 cards that match (3 matching sight words, 3 cards with synonyms, 3 identical pictures..etc.)</li>
<li>The dealer takes the top card off of the deck and places it in his/her hand and discards a card in his/her hand to the left. At the same time the dealer is discarding his/her card, the other players are choosing a card to discard. The card the player chooses should be a card that he/she doesn't need to help them create a set of 3.</li>
<li>Players always take the card from the person on their right, and discards a card to the person on their left. This continues until someone has a set of 3. </li>
<li>The person sitting to the right of the dealer places all their cards in the "trash pile." Once the dealer it out of cards to pass, he/she just begins taking from the trash pile to keep the game going.</li>
<li>Here's the fun part: When a player has a set of 3, he or she races to grab a spoon. When all other players see this, they also make a mad dash to grab the spoon. The player left without a spoon is out. (Of course, you don't have to eliminate players if you don't want. Players can get back in each round, if desired. However, if you do eliminate players, than you will want to remove a spoon each round to reflect the number of players). </li>
<li>Since students are practicing a skill here, after each round, students should be checking the winner's cards to make sure that he/she has a match!</li>
</ul>

<br />
Are you a visual person? Me too. Here's a quick You Tube video I found so that you can see this game in action. The video shows the traditional way to play the game, just using a standard deck of cards where players try to get 4 of a kind.<br />

<br />
Happy Monday! The first week back after Christmas break is over and you're back in the swing of things! Time to start pluggin' in some new ideas into your daily routine!<br />
<br />
Yesterday in our Sunday School class, we played a really fun (yet ridiculously simple to make) game to help review the lesson we were learning for the day.<br />
<br />
We were learning about the 12 sons of Jacob (characters from the Bible), and I was looking for a fun way to review them, so I decided to do a little "Guess Who" game. It's so simple friends, that I can barely even call it DIY because *I* didn't really do much accept for spend about 5 minutes on the computer creating the following two pages.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj51qPjB3plIvFZx74ilDq0ZMRfN6klp6kjBu1-wga_2Vp88qyGrIQwqpgHEt7UvgcxGOAkA5x8rlUC-B0rhOztpSyhCbt-ykmF4gPdpmkcLiTVQtp2LDjTBM3-21_vhJbFUFRh9ZbVQpw/s1600/picture_card.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="573" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj51qPjB3plIvFZx74ilDq0ZMRfN6klp6kjBu1-wga_2Vp88qyGrIQwqpgHEt7UvgcxGOAkA5x8rlUC-B0rhOztpSyhCbt-ykmF4gPdpmkcLiTVQtp2LDjTBM3-21_vhJbFUFRh9ZbVQpw/s640/picture_card.png" width="640" /></a></div>
This top picture has boxes with the pictures of Jacob and his 12 sons on it (images found <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/559572322431066624/">here</a>). and the bottom picture has the same sized boxes, but no pictures.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8HDxTFRfVgtjSvlMCXZoX4Bbw939sBhDgJ0-uDLL4D8f2jAbqDXu6DO0mw7SB7HMjff4hEZx_McuMrJKRL2pfqoyMVvgeDnJiexaCSgx0z37oNdNJOhyphenhyphenyQxNg1uD_A5-p_3P_OSDf2jU/s1600/blank_board_card.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8HDxTFRfVgtjSvlMCXZoX4Bbw939sBhDgJ0-uDLL4D8f2jAbqDXu6DO0mw7SB7HMjff4hEZx_McuMrJKRL2pfqoyMVvgeDnJiexaCSgx0z37oNdNJOhyphenhyphenyQxNg1uD_A5-p_3P_OSDf2jU/s640/blank_board_card.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I had the students cut out their picture boxes (see - so easy, I didn't even have to do the cutting!). They then set the up 2 file folders like shown below (I paper clipped them together so that they would stay together. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLeO5eX36eIigbGY_ERm1UgDsnFaVGoxK56tu7RYXZcI4AvuGsNwWXgGMxJ529VKzy66GHCtAiJd4pDXkXivLOA_JOSYZE_Ze95Ws1ayxlM0DQnWbhmfPLprrFTBO4SmHZukUs0aW_ilc/s1600/header.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="358" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLeO5eX36eIigbGY_ERm1UgDsnFaVGoxK56tu7RYXZcI4AvuGsNwWXgGMxJ529VKzy66GHCtAiJd4pDXkXivLOA_JOSYZE_Ze95Ws1ayxlM0DQnWbhmfPLprrFTBO4SmHZukUs0aW_ilc/s640/header.png" width="640" /></a></div>
You'll also notice I stuck an object (a bell, in my case) in between the folders to keep the top half from falling over.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNU-Gt9BR6aqwIOX7h3a3Gmy7leEQBt5d8t3kW3aggsD-fZSdS0STszOYsAItO8ac1m2aDQeI7HWQvd883lYVNwHf5Jn10R2E5G63aCpwERNgkI-1El9AFfzjaa2-Scb2jWzGlfhUxceA/s1600/set_up1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNU-Gt9BR6aqwIOX7h3a3Gmy7leEQBt5d8t3kW3aggsD-fZSdS0STszOYsAItO8ac1m2aDQeI7HWQvd883lYVNwHf5Jn10R2E5G63aCpwERNgkI-1El9AFfzjaa2-Scb2jWzGlfhUxceA/s1600/set_up1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNU-Gt9BR6aqwIOX7h3a3Gmy7leEQBt5d8t3kW3aggsD-fZSdS0STszOYsAItO8ac1m2aDQeI7HWQvd883lYVNwHf5Jn10R2E5G63aCpwERNgkI-1El9AFfzjaa2-Scb2jWzGlfhUxceA/s640/set_up1.png" width="486" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The students then placed their blank box sheet on their side of the folder and placed the picture cards in any order on top of the blank boxes. Again - notice who is doing all the work :) Not me!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then had a separate set of the picture cards, one set per partner group (this was in ADDITION to the cards that they cut up). Once students set up their board placing all pictures on the box, I had each partner group pick a person from the additional picture card set and paper clip this picture in the corner on the top of the file folder. (Ex. The picture below shows "Levi" clipped in the corner). This became the person that their partner would try to guess. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCLcghvnPV237h9VY1Ea1WFoZEYkA8k0rgdHV8xrWbVH-9HUKsHQEGfWtReTAAjXAWpnvfkAnMaHLgfZyJWLUvUKUHZ9ZHJ3JCvWND32tzlU12_ySkxhBCf18jjvYfaj0TBoF_PqIorTs/s1600/playing.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="592" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCLcghvnPV237h9VY1Ea1WFoZEYkA8k0rgdHV8xrWbVH-9HUKsHQEGfWtReTAAjXAWpnvfkAnMaHLgfZyJWLUvUKUHZ9ZHJ3JCvWND32tzlU12_ySkxhBCf18jjvYfaj0TBoF_PqIorTs/s640/playing.png" width="640" /></a></div>
Students played the game using the regular "Guess Who" rules asking their partner yes/no questions about their secret person. (ex. Does your person have a striped belt?). Students would remove people off their board as they eliminated who their partner's person might be.<br />
<br />
Once a partner had won, the students could rearrange their board as they wanted to and choose a new picture card and play again.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: magenta;">So, how can you use this idea in your classroom? EASY! </span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: magenta;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: black;">Choose characters from a book, historical figures, or any other group of people your students need to review. It would even make a great game to tuck away for now and use at the beginning of the school year by using pictures of your students and have students guess which classmate their partner has. What a great way for your students to get to know their classmates at the beginning of the year!!</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Can you believe it - all that planning for Christmas (both in and out of the classroom), and now it's over!? I guess there's only one thing left to do (<i>other than eat the leftover Christmas cookies ASAP</i>)...<br />
<br />
Get ready for the new year! It wouldn't be the new year here on the Classroom Game Nook blog if we didn't have some fun games and activities lined up for that first week back at school.<br />
<br />
<b>Here are my top picks for games to play as you welcome your students back in 2016!</b><br />
<br />
<i>{Note: The first two games show 2015 in the image, but have been updated by the author to be used for 2016!}</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://lalymom.com/new-years-eve-ideas-kids-3-printable-activities/"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCYRWzDbEo5XtSnQ3o7U9Ii2VIYR1q9Nq3eEfyeW9upgIjPZMivZIEYidmEEhwTFmMriAGZl0nyD7vF0HiUR3jzax4TN-hWe9CDL-4RR7zO1EUA0CPnM6FREPzSZMm-r0hSbskixvQ63k/s640/Ways_to_Make-The_year.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
This game is great for older students. The students simply use all 4 operations to show different ways to make 2016. Put a timer on and see how fast students can come up with several number sentences equaling 2016! You can download the printable <a href="http://lalymom.com/new-years-eve-ideas-kids-3-printable-activities/">here</a>, courtesy of <a href="http://lalymom.com/">lalymom.com</a><br />
<br />
The next game by itself is perfectly fine...but if you want to make it more educational for your students, add just little extra prep.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://lalymom.com/new-years-eve-ideas-kids-3-printable-activities/"><img border="0" height="330" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgca2E-eGSc8AJP325Dwcus6gpzgWDdWlHxu7_mGLq2l3jLlACc2ppxYAzSKdghZqG28ycEcz-sVyxwb8UCW63YFLDrlGf8g1LeI6tciN6e5F9oUI-6yWk5cfkZSBVrYtfFtEnNZ6m2ziw/s640/roll_a_year.png" width="640" /></a></div>
As written, students roll the printable die (shown above). They then cover up the number they land on. The first student to cover up every digit in the year wins. However, make this game fit your classroom needs by prepping some question cards. The cards can be for any skill and any content area. Students first pick a card and answer the question. If they get the question right, THEN they get to roll the die. If not, the card is put back into the pile to be answered by another student. Provide your students with an answer key for easy checking! You can find the printable <a href="http://lalymom.com/new-years-eve-ideas-kids-3-printable-activities/">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<b>The last two are my own games that you can snag for free! The both make great games for the first week back. Take a peak:</b><br />
<br />
The first one is a "New Year's SCOOT." The SCOOT cards ask questions about their goals for the new year and reflections of the year just past. There are also a few educational ones thrown in there as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/New-Years-Themed-Scoot-466326"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoaDYDicyICOzFcroLs5Pb97ke64fSGchua8GLgB0U1e8for3ynf-U5Lw5rACP7mEGkudES_gCT6xj7TMrhWEYbi-Hig3DRlIYpjaoTrqme4nir7GFnoNfzaEPJIc2Qj9x696wQNGOW6w/s640/new_years_scoot.png" width="319" /></a></div>
Grab your free copy <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/New-Years-Themed-Scoot-466326">here</a>.<br />
<br />
The second game is ideal for small groups. Print off and assemble one die per small group and allow students to reflect on their goals for the new year. There is a different prompt on each side of the die.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6W0uz8zqMNndWN0NDdLWEp5czg/view"><img border="0" height="536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEw70DqsfrHqikN1QsPsK0Wf4uDC6B1kt785DXQZFF4y8GO_bkCBkNY6bOGyZ_OEX9mkjANFL3usyB7TRdAqGyCnsTrxEhxyxgb_-HazFMH5iKu_x6mdwStULSGL4bwp39CWFtMiP_kdk/s640/newyear_dice2.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6W0uz8zqMNndWN0NDdLWEp5czg/view"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN1uoD2QU5Ol0gHFoNQml_24Pgwdcv3tu-YYoZxEkTkdgwxD_Ldc2y9uOAJwW3Ud_KAPHLSM_VUV5FH_lezPeedsXn_lO94P025SnrlM1xCMiLgoyHu5rfAaVi-TXhPvShLU3tGvLXKQ8/s640/newyear_dice.png" width="532" /></a></div>
This die is available right <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6W0uz8zqMNndWN0NDdLWEp5czg/view">here on the blog</a>!<br />
<br />

I have been sitting on this little piece of news for quite some time and now I am SOOO excited to shout it out! I was asked to write a guest blog post for the official <a href="http://blog.teacherspayteachers.com/make-learning-meaningful-make-learning-fun/">Teachers Pay Teachers Blog</a>! They are the big dogs, and little ol' me is running with them! Holy cow! When they asked me to write for them I was stunned! But now, it's live and ready for you to read! I hope you enjoy! <br />
